If I could name this volume of Ben 10: Alien Force, I would call it “The Rogue Gallery,” since the five episodes in this volume featured villains from Ben Tennyson’s past. For those not familiar with the cartoon, Ben Tennyson is no ordinary teenager. Not only is he a part of a secret intergalactic police group known as the Plumbers, but he is also the sole bearer of the Omnitrix, a device that allows him to transform into various alien beings. With Gwen, his cousin and fellow Plumber, and her love interest Kevin, they embark on adventures filled with aliens, bounty hunters, and spell casters.
I have reviewed my fair share of Ben 10 episodes and I am happy to report that these episodes are just as good as the previous. The quality of the writing and story is top notch for a kid’s program. I am always surprised by how snappy and quick the dialogue is for a kid’s cartoon, but I expect nothing less from creators of the show, the collection of comic artist and writers known as Man of Action. Along with great writing, the episodes always throw in some entertaining fight scenes, which are sure to dazzle the kids who watch the show.
Now even though I am not a hardcore fan of the series, I am a fan of continuity. So, I was very pleased to see that the writers of the show had decided to bring back some of the villains from the previous Ben 10 series. Characters like Spellcaster, The Vreedle Bros., and Darkstar all show up to give Ben a headache, which I am sure will thrill fans who have been following the character since the first series.
While most of the episodes were amusing, I think I enjoyed the bonus episode the most. Titled “The Con of Rath,” it marks the first appearance of Rath, a new alien that Ben is able to turn into. I do not know if it was because of the time or the lack of food in my stomach, but I really thought that episode was the best of all the episodes I have seen. Rath is angry all the time, picks fights with everyone, and screams every line he utters. It is comedic gold. If you watch any Ben 10 episode from volume 8, you need to watch this one.
Ben 10 Volume 8 offers up what every volume has delivered so far: good solid storytelling, witty dialogue, and great action scenes. It is something any child will love.

Here review of First Watch: 'Ben 10: Ultimate Alien'.While watching Cartoon Network's Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, one can practically taste the "sweet" cereal being spooned into their mouth... even though the show airs Sunday nights. And the Ben 10 story is a sweet one indeed. The series, basically about a boy who gets an alien device (the Omnitrix) attached to his arm that allows him to turn into various alien creatures, first debuted in 2005 as simply Ben 10.
2008 saw the mutation of Ben 10 into Ben 10: Alien Force, set five years later, and featuring more mature characters and darker, more complex plots. And yet again, in 2010, Ben 10: Ultimate Alien was born. Ben is now 16, and the proud owner of the Ultimatrix, giving him access to all his original powers, but also allowing him to evolve into ultra-powerful "ultimate" alien forms.So what exactly does homeboy do with his time? Dodge the paparazzi, for one, since his secret identity was outed to the world by a young fan. Besides that, it's battling alien threats to the galaxy with his friends Gwen and Kevin, and his Grandpa Max (voiced by the fantastic and instantly recognizable Paul Eiding, Colonel Campbell from the Metal Gear Solid series). So, you know, the usual. The current Big Bad is Aggregor, who is in hot pursuit of the Map of Infinity. So why should we care?

Oh right, that. Thankfully, the show balances its sci-fi zaniness with a strong dose of age-appropriate humor.

But back to the sci-fi zaniness. Admittedly, I was expecting some flashy CG graphics or nifty cell shading, but the animation is actually pretty traditional. Which isn't to say the action isn't good,

Watch Ben 10: Ultimate Alien premieres Oct. 10.Cartoon Network is throwing the biggest, coolest Ben 10 day with the exclusive regional premiere of Ben 10: Ultimate Alien on Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. Cartoon Network will present Ben 10 TV marathons, new on-line games and contests, party kits, a new product range from toy maker Bandai — with limited edition aliens, a dedicated Facebook page and website and an exclusive Win the Ultimate Ultimatrix contest.
The new series follows now 16-year-old Ben Tennyson as his life changes in major ways. Ben deals with superstardom after his secret identity is revealed, while fighting new villains. With the Omnitrix destroyed, Ben must learn to master the secrets of the mysterious Ultimatrix, a new watch-like device that not only allows him to transform into a variety of alien super heroes, but gives him the ability to activate evolved or “ultimate” versions of some of his most powerful alien entities. Ben needs all the power he can get to take on new villain and his most formidable adversary yet: Aggregor.
There will be a special Ben 10 Marathon — 24 hours of Ben 10 action starting at midnight on Oct. 10. It will feature Ben 10, Ben 10: Alien Force and Ben 10 Specials and follows Ben’s evolution from a 10-year-old boy to a galaxy saving superhero with help from his alien incarnations.
Watch teen Ben Tennyson continues to protect the Earth from extraterrestrial and homegrown goons in the animated “Ben 10: Ultimate Alien” series. Ben now fights tougher, more relentless menaces that threaten him and his family using a new gadget that evolves his alien forms into their “ultimate” versions.
But one challenge he didn’t expect is becoming popular. In the episode “Fame,” a young fan gathers and posts evidence of Ben’s secret battles with different enemies online, so the teen hero has to deal with becoming an instant celebrity. Criticized by some for the destruction resulting from his fights, but beloved by his grateful and astonished fans, Ben is becoming more aware of his responsibilities.
The absence of a secret identity, however, brings the paparazzi and super-villains to his doorstep. In the episode “Hit ‘Em Where They Live,” Ben’s parents are stalked by three vicious foes. But their plans are thwarted resoundingly by Ben, his superpowered teen partners—his cousin Gwen and her boyfriend Kevin, and his grandfather Max.
Co-created by a group of mostly established comic book writers, the successful “Ben 10” initially centered on a 10-year-old Ben Tennyson; in “Ultimate Alien” the main character is now 16, tries to balance school and heroic duties, but still tries to have fun using his superpowers. In one of the lighter episodes, he discovers the folly of dividing himself into three beings (to simultaneously watch a movie, watch a friend’s tennis match and go on a mission).
“Ultimate Alien” introduces new characters, strikingly designed “ultimate” alien identities and the villainy of the enigmatic Aggregor. The show possesses a more serious tone, but its elaborate action sequences dazzle and the comic book drama makes it accessible.
“Ben 10: Ultimate Alien” airs Sundays, 10 a.m., on Cartoon Network. “Ben 10: Alien Force” airs Sundays, 6 p.m.
Nick’s ‘Scarenival’
Nickelodeon gives a sneak preview of “Anubis,” a new mystery and adventure soap drama starring a group of teenagers living together in a boarding school. They live ordinary lives until a roommate discovers an old secret mystery about a house, one that should be left alone.
The suspense airs on Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m.
